Today's Tips
Having trouble with a stubborn jar lid, that just won't budge? Wrap a rubberband around the lid and try again.
Despite owning almost every kitchen gadget know to man, I do not own a double boiler. I've always made do with sitting a bowl atop a pot of water. The trouble there was that the bowl always fit too snugly and boiling water would spit and sputter from between the two. Plus, when I needed to wisk or stir, I never had a place to grasp to steady the bowl. Last night, I discovered that by using a round casserole dish, with handles, that was slightly smaller than the pot of boiling water, there was plenty of room around for steam to escape, plus handles for me to hold as I stirred.
I save the bottoms of the green onions and plant them. When they come back, don't pull them just trim. Free green onions all summer.
ReplyDeleteTo steam you could use a colander over a pan of water, and fit your bowl over the top of that. The steam will rise right up underneath.
ReplyDeleteOooh, I like Sonya's tip! I planted green onions from seed this year and they're taking FOREVER to mature!
ReplyDeleteThanks for the tips, y'all! Sonya Ann, I read the onion tip on your blog the other day. I was so tickled when some of my recipes called for them this weekend. We planted all the bottoms, I can't wait to see what happens!
