Back To School Tomorrow!

Summer flies by so fast! The girls are so excited to be getting back to seeing their friends each day. I do feel bad that they have to board their bus at 6:00 A.M. each weekday, ride 1.5 hours to their schools, then do the same thing in reverse each afternoon. That's three whole hours spent traveling. But they even enjoy that part of the day, so if they don't mind, I guess I shouldn't either.

We have been busy getting prepared, over the past few weeks and now, they're ready to go. I was sort of surprised at the frugal outlook that the girls took this year...

-Both Cina and Selly decided that their bookbags, binders, and supply cases, were in good enough shape to use again this year.

-Selly wanted a haircut and Renni gave her a coupon for a local salon, that would knock the cost down to $9.00. She saved money by washing and drying her hair at home. When the lady told her that straightening would cost $12.00, Selly passed on that and just asked Cina to do it for her at home.

-Cina had a clothes swap with friends and family, while visiting her dad. Then, she had a clothes swap with Selly, upon returning home. They supplimented those clothes by visiting thrift stores for "new" accesories. The only clothes we had to pay full price for were socks and underwear.

- The only real shopping trip we have had to make, was for paper, pencils, composition books etc. Plus, I had to buy a few supplies for Tallen and Ross to use here at home.

-The clothes swapping worked out so well that the girls and I are discussing perhaps holding a clothes swap, for them and their friends, at the community center after the first of the year. Probably midway through the school year, when all the girls are getting tired of wearing the same things.

I would love to hear of the frugal ways the rest of you prepared for this school year.

  1. I never would have thought of a clothes swap. That's a great idea!
