Was My Face Red! Wednesday

Welcome to Was My Face Red! Wednesday! Most of us have, at one time or another, done something so humiliating, that we wished the floor would open up and consume us. Let's swallow our pride and share those moments with others! Our shame was not in vain, if it can put a smile on someone face! You tell me yours, and I'll tell you mine...

Everyone is welcome to participate. Just leave the link to your WMFR post below.

Every Spring, our phone starts ringing off the hook. Folks are calling, hoping to find work, helping my husband plant crops. Most of these folks sincerely want to work and gives a day's work for a day's pay. However, this was not the case with one man...

This guy had a live in girlfriend that worked very hard to pay the bills. He, on the other hand, never held down a job for very long. Mostly, he sat at home, drinking beer and playing video games. Well, about once a year, she would get on his case (I assume) and he would start calling our home relentlessly. No matter how many times I told him that I would have Hubs give him a call back, when he returned home, he would call every hour, on the hour, asking to speak to him. When he finally talked to Hubs, he would tell him the sad story of how badly he needed work and how he would do any job that Hubs had for him.

The crazy thing was, after Hubs would commit to giving him work the next day, he would either A. Call at the crack of dawn to say that he couldn't make it for some reason or the other, or B. Show up for about an hour, claim to get diarrhea, and leave. Well, I figured out real quick, that he was only calling Hubs so desperately, to make his girlfriend think he really wasn't to sorry to work. Then, bless his heart (NOT!) some random thing would happen that prevented him from working. Hubs was slower to catch on. So, every Spring, he would fall for this guy's sob story, make plans for him to show up, then be short handed the next day. He would do this several times over the growing season.

Well, I think it was last Spring, but maybe the one before that, he started calling. I told Hubs to not even waste him time with this guy and to just give the job to someone else, rather than having to scramble the next day, finding someone to take his place. Hubs didn't listen. He told the guy what time to show up the next day and stressed to him that it was very important that he showed up as agreed. Well, sure as shit, next morning the phone is ringing before daylight. It was his girlfriend calling to tell Hubs that Mr. Wonderful had injured his back the evening before, had been awake all night in pain, and would not be coming to work that day. Hubs was very nice about the whole thing.

When Hubs put down the phone, I started my sermon. I told hubs that this fella was sorry as owl shit and that he wouldn't work in a pie factory. And that I was tired of him using us as a prop for his "Honey I'm Looking for a Job, Hard as I Can..." story, only to call and wake us up at Sparrow's Fart:30, with some lame ass excuse as to why he couldn't come. I told Hubs that he should never believe this guy again and that the next time he called to just tell him we weren't wasting our time with him. I also added how sorry I felt for his poor girlfriend.

Well, when I finished talking, Hubs asked me to call somewhere for something or another (can't remember what). I picked up the phone and could have died. It was still on! Praying that she had hung up, despite Hub's failure to do so, I moved the phone to my ear. I heard, "Hello?". SHE WAS STILL ON THE LINE! and had been the whole time. I gave the phone to Hubs and he talked to her about some question she had about this or that. She did not mention anything about me giving Mr. Wonderful down the country. I felt so bad! But on a brighter note, he never called about working again.
