Reasons You Might Want To Stop Following Me...

Not even I can be quite sure where this post is going. But, I'll start by sharing this ...

First they came for the communists, and I did not speak out--
because I was not a communist;
Then they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out--
because I was not a socialist;
Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out--
because I was not a trade unionist;
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out--
because I was not a Jew;
Then they came for me--
and there was no one left to speak out for me.

Martin Niemoller

  This quote was the first thing that popped into my mind earlier, after visiting the blog of my friend, John. You see, John is the adoptive father of two wonderful boys, who are also special needs children. Those boys are his world! I love stopping by his blog and reading about the latest funny antics of the boys, or watching a nice video of one of their great trips. I share John's frustration when he seems to hit roadblock after roadblock, with the public school system, while trying to ensure a good education for his sons. I laugh out loud (for real), when reading some of the hilarious stories that John has to tell. His blog is one of my absolute favorites. Mostly because he is so real. He tells everything like it is and just how he sees it.

  Oh, I'm sorry. Did I forget to mention that John is also GAY. Ooooooh, it's looks even scarier when I put it in big letters, doesn't it?? Now, ask me if I have a problem with that. The answer is a big NO! However, it seems that some folks DO have a problem with that. How do I know this? Well, when John came straight out and asked them why they had rejected his ads on Entrecard, they told him that it is because he is gay. They went on to say that his blog doesn't reflect their Christian values. Reason number one that I take issue. It has always been my understanding that, true Christians are to embrace everyone, EVERYONE, show them how wonderful God is, the power of his love, etc... Not ostracise them.  My point is, you don't have to agree with someone or they don't have to live exactly the way you do, for you to be accepting of them. So, if you have a problem with the fact that someone is gay, say that. But please don't say that and use Christianity as an excuse for it.

   I lost a follower last week. I thought it was because I said a bad word LOL After reading John's post and seeing the list of those who rejected him, I realized who it was. And, if you will look in my right sidebar, at the banners displayed there, you will also see why. There, big as life, is John's banner ad, with the word "GAY" right there on it. I just want to say that,  if you aren't a reader of John's blog, you are really missing out on some wonderful stuff! I also wanted to make sure that everyone also knows that I am a GAY FRIENDLY BLOGGER. That doesn't mean that I am a follower of all blogs written by or about gay people. It does mean that I base my opinion on the actual content of a blog and not on the sexual orientation of the author. So, if that changes your opinion of me, or my blog, nows your chance to run...

  This whole mess got me to thinking about other stuff that might make following me be considered to be in poor taste. So, just to be fair to you all, here's the lowdown...

1. I have an eyebrow piercing, a belly button piercing, two piercings in my left ear, and only one in my right. I do show respect and remove all but an earring in each ear, for church, baptisms, funerals, and PTO meetings.

2. I like ICP. If you don't know who they are, I won't go into detail. If you do, you're probably high fiving the computer screen right now.

3. I can't even remember what my original hair color used to be. Right now, I am a blond. Next week, my hair will probably be cherry red.

4. I was a teenage mother. I got pregnant at 15 and gave birth to Renni when I was 16. I did the stupid thing and married her father. I had another baby, Cota, at age 17.

5. I dropped out of high school. Mostly because I missed my baby so much each day. Partly because I breast fed and there was no good location to pump my milk at the school and so my boobs hurt excruciatingly bad each day. I did go back 4 years later and get my GED.

6. I have been married three times.

7. I once had a torrid love affair ( NOT while I was married) with a man that I met online. He was a very successful businessman from the Netherlands. He did visit me here in the States some. I was afraid of flying and so I never went to the Netherlands. He sent me a couple  thousand dollars each month and loads of gifts. Was I a "kept" woman? (gasp!)  We were very in love and spent hours on the phone, when we were apart. We were to be married but it didn't work out. Mostly because he had so many obligations there and I had so many obligations here. I really loved his accent and the way he would get confused with English and say silly things. He once said, " I love your horny eyes..." He meant to say "bedroom eyes". Once he told me, "You look so sexy, eating chicken..." Just melted my heart... (sigh) I was completely heartbroken and couldn't leave my bed for 2 whole weeks, after we decided to end things. I cried till my eyes were swollen shut and I had lost my voice. I still miss him sometimes.

8. My husband is much older than me. I love him. However, the age difference is an issue at times and he really pisses me off. Then, I blog about it.

9. When I watch Jerry Springer, it reminds me to call my Mama. Just kidding! But really, I did grow up very poor, in the midst of a bunch of back woods lunatics.  I never even tasted real butter or ate Pizza from a restaurant, until I was a grown woman. I still turned out pretty OK. I think.

10. I don't watch soap operas but I do watch Trailer Park Boys. Mostly because I have lived in a lot of trailer parks in my life and so I can relate. Plus, the show is hilarious...

11. I say bad words.

12. I am a clutter bug.

13. I never iron. EVER. I just try to get things folded and put away, while they're still warm from the dryer.

  I could go on and on. Just know that I do my level best to be who I am, who I really am, in my blog. I try not to put on a show for anyone and I appreciate other bloggers that do the same.  I LOVE to have followers, but I only want folks to follow me if they are genuinely interested in my life and what I have to say. I don't ever want to feel as though I might need to walk on eggshells, just to keep followers. And I surely would never betray my friends, just so I could have a popular blog.

  1. Shhh, don't tell anyone, but you have a lesbian following you. I enjoyed your post so much I had to follow.

    It really warms my heart when I find straight people going out on a limb and standing up for our rights. It really shouldn't have to be that you are going out on a limb. No one should feel like they might lose followers/readers if they take a stand on something that is so very simple. We're all human beings, and all Christians know that we are ALL created in God's image. I too find it hard to believe that some people hid behind their religion as the basis for taking a stand against gays.

    I found John through Jen's Kid's Of Queers and I am so glad I did. He has such a wonderful outlook on parenting his boys and I really enjoy his sense of humor.

    Again, thank you for a great post!

  5. I just followed you for a lot of the same reasons! We have a lot in common. I look forward to reading your blogs. I'm sorry about your friend. I have no tolerance for homophobia at all.

  6. I love you, too!! But not like SonyaAnn. I think mine IS in a scary Steven King way. Wait, no...that is someone else.

    Truly, your blog is fabulous! I AM a Christian and LOVE lots of Gay people. God put me here to love my fellow man (and woman), not to judge them.

    It's kinda scary that we share a lot of traits/experiences! I grew up in a trailer, though it wasn't a backwoods trailer...my Dad's job transferred him a lot when I was really young, and my parents thought a mobile home was a wiser investment than rent.

    I have 3 piercings in my left ear and one in my right and never, ever, take out any earings, except to change them for a different one. I had a torid love affair in my past and I am blonde now, too!

    I am so glad SonyaAnn sent me to your blog!
