Top Ten Thursday - My Top Ten Irrational Fears

Welcome to Top Ten Thursday! I created this meme to add a little bit of variety to Frump Day ( no longer Hump Day, not yet Friday...) If you would like to participate, just create your own Top Ten post about anything your heart desires and add the link below. Everyone is welcome to join in. This should get really interesting...

I know I am way late with posting today, but I decided to take some time out and visit a few new blogs, that I have been to before.

My Top Ten Irrational Fears

I'm sure everyone has them. Though, perhaps, some of us are a bit more OCD than others. Here are the things I think about that make my cringe and shiver, usually when my mind has drifted when I am supposed to be intently listening to idle conversation. LOL I try to explain, but others just think I'm crazy...

1. Poking out my eye on the corner of an open cabinet door. I'm not sure where this comes from. I have banged my head countless times on an open cabinet door. Once, after sitting on the counter and jumping down without looking, I cut a 3 inch gash into my right buttock, on the corner of a cabinet door left open below me. But never, ever, have I jabbed a corner into my eye.

2. That a bug will crawl into my ear. As far as I know, this has never happened to me either. But the thought of it gives me terrors. So much so, that I sleep with the sheet wrapped around my head to protect my ears. I am also afraid of being buried when I die, for the very same reason. As if I would even know. LOL

3. "Bloody Mary, Bloody Mary, Bloody Mary". Even at the ripe old age of 38, you couldn't hire me to spin three times in front of a mirror in a darkened room and chant this. My mind tells me that nothing will happen but I don't want to take any chances.

4. That I will give my child the wrong medication or too much of the right medication. I check the bottle label over and over. Then I do the same with the measuring spoon.

5. That I am going to get a Flesh Eating bacteria. I know I watch too much Discovery Health. But, whenever I am outside and scrape my leg over something, I quietly worry for the next few hours, afraid that the cut will start consuming my leg.

6. That I will be in the wrong place at the wrong time and wind up being accused of a crime that I did not commit. Really, this fear even enters my dreams, or rather nightmares. I also dream that I have murdered someone and am just waiting for the cops to come get me. I'll realize that I dropped a hairbrush or something at the scene and that they can easily find my DNA on it. It is the most horrible feeling. In the dream, I can never recall exactly what the circumstances for the murder were. I just know that I am terrified of going to jail and heartbroken about leaving my kids. I sometimes wonder if this stuff might not derive from a past life or something. Anyway, I am always super happy to wake up!

7. That I will be watching America's Most Wanted and realize that I am sitting in the same room with one of the featured criminals. If this ever happens, my plan i to pretend that I have fallen asleep and missed that part of the show, until I get a good chance to run out of there and phone the authorities. LOL

8. My long lost family is looking for me. Like, I'll be watching one of those "help me find my family" type shows and see my baby picture on the screen. Actually, this isn't a fear. It's a personal fantasy of mine...

9. That I will get to the checkout counter and either not have enough money on hand, or have my credit/debit card rejected. Even when I know I have enough money, I still worry. I usually try to go to an ATM beforehand and take out way more money than I'll need. Just to be safe. Otherwise, if Renni is with me, I get her to go through the line. I am sure this is a throwback to growing up poor and having this happen on many occasions.

10. Unknown Name-Unknown Number calls. I love Caller ID! But for some reason, I cannot make myself answer a call when I can't see who the caller is. I always just let them leave a message and call them back. Also, I have blocked all private number calls. I figure if they don't want me knowing who they are, then I don't have any interest in speaking to them...
